Hydeaway Farm

NAMPO Harvest Days

For many years, the Hydes of Hydeaway have taken themselves off to the NAMPO Harvest Day, an enormous agricultural event that attracts literally thousands of people from all over South Africa. It's a real day out and a massive treat.

On this page, I'll share some pictures and snippets from our NAMPOs. Enjoy, and take my advice and go there yourself... it's truly worth it.

NAMPO 2011

There were small horses (miniature ponies)  and not so small horses (Sympa de Bellevue, In-hand Horse of the Year 2011, a Percheron)
Not small at all horses (Sympa de Bellevue's filly)  Nothing small about Bertus B., the biggest Friesian in South Africa.
For some, like this police horse, it was time to work.  ... and like this cow and calf waiting to enter the show ring.

Others, like these two beef calves...  ... this enormous bull...
... and this little calf, just relaxed.  There were all manner of cattle breeds - Holsteins like this one,
diminutive Dexters,  beautiful and formidable Ngunis,
picturesque Herefords,  an adorable fluffy young Charolais,
Picasso-spotted Ayrshires,  a darling Dairy Swiss calf,
a whole collection of beef bulls,  and here, we all agreed, with apologies to Brett, is a REAL cow (a Jersey).
Machinery abounded. This is a disc.  This is an old-fashioned thing that pumps water.
This is an old engine.   This is a little threshing machine.
This tractor blew perfect smoke rings when it was started.  This farmer's invention is for feeding dogs.
This farmer's invention looks like an innocent jewelry box, but open it and a shockingly realistic plastic snake pops out and touches you on the arm.  This is an enormous tractor.
This is the tractor that Jon wants.  This tractor is not enormous.
